WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE INSURANCE AS A DIGITAL NOMAD

From travelling to the airport on the wrong day, to booking the wrong flight and leaving belongs behind, to being targeted by scammers – it’s easy for mishaps to occur when it comes to travel. Even the most seasoned of wanderers can fall foul of misfortune.

But if there’s one thing mistake you shouldn’t make as a digital nomad, it’s forgetting to take out travel and health insurance.

Talking about insurance might not be the sexiest of subjects. But it’s important and could ultimately save you from a lot of heartache further down the line.

Digital nomads who don’t think they need a nomads insurance should think again, as having an insurance program only serves to protect the individual from the daily unforeseen mishaps or events everyone experiences. This is particularly important if you are alone with no one to help you in a certain situation of difficulty or peril.

  • YOU’LL GET HELP IF YOU GET SICK OR INJURED ABROAD

If, as a digital nomad, you fall badly ill abroad, you could be facing a large bill to get yourself back home to get the required treatment without an insurance program in place. Medical expenses would also cover any injury-related incidents – a severe injury would more than often be best treated back home, where one is more used to the services at hand and perhaps can rely upon family and friends for general help or care.

  • EVACUATIONS ARE INCLUDED

Evacuations are costly – we are talking hundreds of thousands. Most of us don’t have that much cash to burn, so taking out an appropriate travel insurance policy will keep you safe. Remember that evacuations aren’t only used in the event of injury – there are also scenarios such as natural disasters to consider.

Whilst evacuations are rare, not being able to pay for one could leave you in debt for years.

  • YOUR STUFF IS PROTECTED

Wherever you are in the world, becoming a victim of theft is a real possibility. Living abroad doesn’t necessarily increase the changes but having insurance cover in place will give you the peace of mind that, if an incident was to occur, you wouldn’t be left out of pocket and having to replace your belongings.

  • YOU’LL BE ABLE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD ON YOUR TERMS

Being agile and flexible as a digital nomad is vital, and to do that – you need peace of mind. Nomad insurance isn’t just there for when something goes wrong, it’s there to act as a safety net, so that you can enjoy doing the things you love.

Ultimately, the last thing you’ll want to do is spend valuable destination planning time, filling out forms, filing claims or making frantic phone calls. The chances are that you won’t even need it but it’s better all round not to take the risk.
